April 30, 2005 Dear Senator Cornyn, Please find enclosed a copy of the letter you sent me the other day as a response to my concern over our alarming lack of security along our borders. Unfortunately, my understanding of your letter is as follows: "Dear Mr ******, I am a card carrying member of the Bush/McCain Open Borders Surrender Monkeys. I am receiving a lot of political contributions from businesses that want the tsunami to continue, and to even speed up if possible. I therefore intend to resist and obstruct any and all efforts to return the US military to the border and stop people from entering the US at unauthorized points of entry. I find it totally unreasonable to demand that people get their paperwork in order and then enter our country at one of our many convenient authorized points of entry. After all, if we demanded that, it would automatically solve the problem of needing to distinguish between benign and dangerous immigrants, and then it would not be necessary to ram Bush's guest worker plan down the throats of the American people. As long as we can keep allowing people to enter our country wherever they feel like, then we will need the guest worker program to get them sorted out. Asking people to get their paper work in order, and then using one of our authorized points of entry, would render Bush's guest worker plan totally unnecessary, and that would obstruct our efforts to speed up the flow of the tsunami, and for heaven's sake, we can't have that! In order to speed the tsunami up, it is imperative that we keep all of the unauthorized points of entry free and clear, so that a need will be artificially created for the guest worker plan, which will in turn trigger massive new waves of illegal entry into the US! Don't you see the beauty of this plan?" Senator Cornyn, here is my response to your letter: First of all, I am saddened that you would think us conservative Texas Republicans to have such low IQs, as to not be able to see through this "smoke and mirror" game. I realize that we are just poor dumb voters, but we are not that stupid. It was a nice try, though, I have to give you credit for that. Let's take this one item at a time. You say that our immigration laws should distinguish between benign and dangerous immigrants. On this I agree with you 100%, but the problem with your statement is that it implies that our current immigration laws do not already do this, and that is completely false. I think if you go back and read sections 1324 and 1325 carefully, you will see that these laws already perform that function splendidly. All that is needed is someone with enough of a spine to enforce these laws, like my own congressman, Rep John Culberson. In other words, we already have a fabulous way to distinguish between benign and dangerous immigrants. It is called "get a visa and use our front door" like every other country in the world demands, especially Mexico! Next, you further state that this will take some kind of a comprehensive immigration policy reform, but again this is only an attempt to make the problem appear a lot more complicated than it really is, as a stall tactic. The Minutemen in AZ have already torpedoed this ridiculous claim, as I knew they would. Again, this does not require the passage of any more laws for Washington to ignore. All it requires, again, is someone like Representative Culberson, with enough integrity and guts to enforce 1324 and 1325. We do not need any more discussion, debate, discourse, or new laws. All we need is the political will to quit pretending that 1324 and 1325 don't exist. As a conservative Texas Republican there is one other thing I would like to ask you: What is conservative, and what is Republican, about our government deciding that it is simply not going to enforce 1324 and 1325? I would submit that there is absolutely nothing conservative OR Republican about a government that picks and chooses which laws it wants to enforce, and which it does not. And please don't try to tell us that these laws are unenforceable, because first of all, that is absolutely not true, (again, see the Minutemen) and second, the American public isn't buying that nonsense anymore, if they ever did. There just is no will to enforce them, and we intend to change that radically beginning in Nov '06! Senator, it is actually getting to the point where it really no longer matters whether we get Washington's support on border defense or not, because we the people, are already well into the process of simply doing your job for you. Soon there will be thousands of us Texans defending the Rio Grande ourselves, and we won't even need you anymore. It just goes to show, that if you want something done right, you better do it yourself. However, Senator, there is one thing I do want to ask your help on, as one Texan to another. Once enough of us have established a sufficient presence on the border to drastically curtail illegal entry into Texas, it is my belief that Mexico City will not simply roll over and play dead. It is my firm and absolute belief that Mexico City is so desperate to continue illegal entry into the US, that when they can no longer simply circumvent the Texans, they will without a doubt begin resorting to the use of force. It is my firm belief that we will come under fire from drug smugglers, human traffickers, gangsters and criminals, terrorists, possibly Mexican police/government agents, and possibly even regular Mexican military forces, as well as possibly even Mexican Special Forces, possibly out of uniform, and working covertly. I would rule out nothing from Mexico City. At this time, the Texans will be faced with a decision; surrender like Bush, or respond with superior firepower in order to maintain the defense of the Rio Grande. I think you and I both know the Texans well enough to be able to predict which choice they will make. We hope Mexico City does not decide to bring fires to bear against us, but if they do, we do not fear it. There is one thing we do fear, however. We fear that if we are forced to return fire in order to defend the Rio Grande, President Bush may send in US military air and ground forces to bring fires to bear against the Texans, in support of Mexico City. I beg you, therefore, to please do all in your power to prevent President Bush from interceding on behalf of Mexico City and attacking the Texans. The president says that we currently lack military forces for deployment on our nations borders, however, if we Texans are forced to return fire in self defense, the Mexicans will need a lot of help, and it would not surprise us in the least if President Bush were to suddenly and miraculously discover a couple of combat infantry divisions with which to attack the Texans. I firmly believe that if President Bush can be stopped from helping Mexico City, the Texans will be more than able to hold the Rio Grande secure.
